About the solution
The Portuguese citizen initiative for mental health – ManifestaMente – has released a free online kit designed to help people protect their mental health, identify trigger warnings and find solutions. The “Basic Mental Health Kit” consist of a 90 minute online course that provides participants with essential information about mental health, covering topics like how to care for our mental health or how to help someone experiencing mental health problems.
The Basic Mental Health Kit was first developed in 2018 to be shared in the form of live sessions on mental health through which ManifestaMente would visit schools and institutions and organize a short session on mental health. However, because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the burden it’s been having on the mental health of so many people, they’ve decided to adapt the content and release the kit online.
“In the current context, all these matters gain particular importance. Because of the challenges that the pandemic has brought on, at the levels of interpersonal relationships, working conditions and financial hardship, mental health is especially at risk”, explains Beatriz Lourenço, psychiatrist, vice-president of ManifestaMente and coordinator of the kit.
The contents of the kit were prepared by a team of expert which included Psychiatrist, clinical psychologists and experts in organizational psychology, adult pedagogy and health communication. In the first month after release, more then 6000 people signed up to take the course
