About the solution
Estelle is the mother of a child born in 2005, called Allan. Allan is autistic, he isn’t able to do tasks alone. He has to have someone to help him in the everyday life. In fact, people with special needs are very often deprived of what we care the most about: independence. This is why his mother Estelle invented an app which sends information to his connected watch. Allan can read what he has to do. In this way, WatcHelp allows Allan to be more independent.
The main aim of WatcHelp is that dependent people could perform multiple daily tasks without constantly having someone with them. The app helping people remember instructions via a connected watch.
The watch is connected to the Estelle’s smartphone. In this way, Estelle can create a schedule for Allan on her smartphone and these instructions has sent on the watch. When Allan has to do something, an alarm ring and the task appears as an image.
Estelle thought that with the present-day technology, it had to exist a way to help this people to become less dependent. She appealed to all the knowledge she had acquired with her son and her professional life.
WatcHelp allows monitoring and the achievement of the task thanks to the "recall" function. To use this function Estelle has to ask a question to which he must answer "yes" or "no", by clicking on his watch. If after two reminders that meet "no", or if Allan doesn’t respond, an alert will appear instantly on Estelle’s phone. In both cases, Estelle can show an image or a reassuring message to help Allan to be patient.
Finally, Estelle can create memos to anticipate the problems Allan might face in everyday life. When Allan is facing a problem, he only has to scroll images - on the watch - or text corresponding to the various steps that he has to follow to keep calm.
According to Estelle, this technology may be used by people with Alzheimer's or Parkinson’s disease.
