About the solution

CaringBridge is a nonprofit online platform that allows individuals to create personal websites to share health updates with family and friends during times of illness, hospitalization, or medical treatment.

The platform, also known as "CaringBridge sites," allows users to create a central hub for sharing health updates, photos, and messages. The sites are easy to set up and can be customized with the individual's choice of design and content. Users can invite family and friends to join the site, and they can leave messages of support and encouragement in a guestbook-style format. It also offers an online community of support, where users can connect with others who are going through similar situations. Users can share stories, provide emotional support, and find comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their health journeys.

CaringBridge is funded through voluntary donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations, and it operates as a registered nonprofit organization in the United States. Since its inception, CaringBridge has been a valuable tool for millions worldwide who seek to share information and receive support during challenging health circumstances.

关于发明者

The first CaringBridge site launched on June 7, 1997, when two college friends asked software engineer Sona Mehring to keep everyone updated after the premature birth of their daughter, Brighid. After a few agonizing phone calls, Sona said, “There’s got to be a better way,” so she created a website. The website Sona creates receives 1,000 hits in one week. Sadly, after a 9-day struggle, against tremendous odds, Brighid dies in surgery.
