Teacher and student create podcast for people to share their coronavirus stories

Shared by Ana Ribeiro on 2020-06-30 15:10

About the solution

Aimee Coelho teaches Media Studies at Millfield School. During class, before the school closed during the country’s lockdown, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Aimee challenged student Charlie Kilner to take part in a new project. Together, they created “Listening Archive”, a podcast that gathers stories of how people all over the world are dealing with the coronavirus outbreak.

The website was coded by Charlie and has a section where everyone who wants to share their story can record an audio file using their computer or smartphone. Charlie and Aimee then listen to all the submission and gather the stories into “weekly episodes of entertaining, inspiring and heart-warming nuggets that aim to distill the best of the human spirit and build a unique perspective”.

The hope is that the podcast works as a medium through which people can connect and “unify in this time of uncertainty”. They also see it as a virtual time capsule, where future audiences will be able to hear first-hand accounts of how society dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic. The podcast has already issued more than 12 episodes, feature stories submitted from countries all around the world.
