About the solution
High School student Sarthak Jain created a doorbell that doesn’t require touch, as a way to do his part in the fight against Covid-19.
"Amidst the pandemic I see everyone wearing masks even while at home. This compelled me to contemplate on all possible ways that this virus could be brought to my household. It struck me that even doorbell can be one of the potential carriers. So I decided to design a smart doorbell", Sarthak explained.
The doorbell has a built-in motion sensor that detects people or objects form a distance of up to 50 cms. When the sensor detects movement, it activated the dorbell’s sound alarm. The system is controlled through a Arduino UNO ultrasonic sensor and powered with a portable charge but Sarthak is working on improving his design.
It took Sarthak two days to complete the working protype, which he built with materials he was able to gather and others he borrowed from his friends.
The doorbell, mounted outside the front door of his house, is accompanied by a message that inform visitors: “Let’s break the chain. Show your hand! No need to ring the bell. Let’s fight against coronavirus.”
“I have designed this project so that it can become a part of saving this world” states the student.
