Gripping device for people with limited finger dexterity or loss of fingers

Shared by ActiveHandsGareth on 2016-01-13 16:05

About the solution

I would like to talk about a company I work for called Active Hands who produce a variety of gripping aids for people who have suffered injuries, illnesses or were born with conditions that mean they struggle to grip and hold onto objects. They can be used in conjunction with things such as gym weights or gym workout machines, handlebars, sports equipment, DIY tools, gardening tools, and many more. They are made from tough webbing and neoprene so they are both durable and comfortable, as well as being machine washable. They work using velcro, giving you the ability to choose exactly how tight you want them to be, and are extremely easy to put on and take off, even if you have no finger movement at all. They are available in a variety of sizes, ranging from child size to large adult and can be delivered all over the world. If you don't think that a product would meet your specific needs then it is always worth emailing, as bespoke aids can be made upon request. The website can be found at http://www.activehands.com/ and here you can read all about the products, see what size you require and order them. New products and new types of aids are being manufactured and added throughout the year, so it is always worth keeping an eye on the website. They really can make a difference to people's lives and I hope they can be of help to anyone reading this.

About the author

I'm Gareth and 11 years ago I suffered a spinal injury that left me quadriplegic. I was determined to still be as independent as possible, despite having no finger movement and limited triceps power. I started playing wheelchair rugby and joined a gym where I started using Active Hands aids. With the help of these, I am able to keep fit and also do work around the house, allowing me to live a fully independent life. Last year I began working for Active Hands and also began writing a blog on life after my injury, which can be found here: http://diaryofagimpykid.blogspot.co.uk/
