About the solution
After I broke my ankle playing basketball and spent six weeks on crutches, I immediately experienced the problem with crutches, the underarm pain. Along with fellow Georgia Tech biomedical engineers Andrew Varghese and Frankie Swindell, I founded Better Walk to create a crutch that allowed users to rest in a manner that didn't put pressure in the armpits. The Better Walk crutch is a new type of crutch that allows users to have improved stability during the motion. The crutch pushes against the side of your body to help those with less upper body strength move through the motion more efficiently. It's spread on your forearms and the side of your body. It was created through patient and physician feedback.

We created this product because we saw that patients with CP usually struggle with stability through the crutch motion. We saw a need for a crutch that provided stability without causing underarm pain, and through patient and physician feedback, we created the Better Walk crutch.
