About the solution
Michael is a missions pastor who, while working in Haiti, got inspired to create low cost reusable diapers for the local children.
“A mama was holding on to a baby that was naked and the mom bent down and picked up fecal matter with her hand and threw it out of the house after the baby had went and done her business on her”, he explained.
Seeing this, the pastor started thinking about an executable and affordable solution that would prevent bacteria. And he came up with DriButts, with the help of his wife, a breathable diaper that doesn’t trap bacteria.
“It is made out of athletic Dri-FIT material. The one that we use is a polyester spandex blend for the outer shell and the inner shell is a polyester lining”, Michael’s wife said.
This a solution for developing countries because it helps to prevent several deadly diseases which can be contracted via bacteria and parasites that can be transmitted through stool contact.
“This diaper was created to work in extreme environments with hot climates and where there is no running water or electricity. Our main focus is to prevent sickness and disease caused from uncontrolled fecal matter. The diaper is made to wash in a bucket with soap and water and hang up to dry quickly. The diaper is made of two parts, the outer shell and the insert. The outer shell is made of dri-fit material, which is breathable. The insert is made of bamboo and another highly-absorbent material. It is folded in thirds and inserted into the pocket of the diaper”, it says on the official website.
Michael founded DriButts, a non profit organization, and now the diapers can be bought online.
Each family who acquires this product is taught to wash the diapers with soap and water and hang them up to dry.
