About the solution
Luiz Américo Muniz, a resident of Floreal, in São Paulo, invented a glass to help his daughter, Terezinha de Cássia, diagnosed with cerebral palsy, drink fluids without choking. Terezinha was diagnosed at six months of age and since then has been living under the care of her parents. Luiz had an excellent idea: to create a special glass. But this idea only occurred to her after her daughter consulted a speech therapist who suggested to the parents that they try to adapt a glass (this to avoid suffocating the daughter). Luiz put this idea on paper and soon after sent the drawing to a small factory in the city, which agreed to produce the glass. The cup has a small hole to control the flow of liquid and a cut that facilitates support on the face. This cup has already helped about 150 people in other cities in the northwest region of São Paulo, and these cups have been distributed free of charge. The glass has been praised by physiotherapists for its motor help, for being of smaller volume, and because the cut that the glass has ensures the correct position of the head during drinking.
