About the solution
MAÉ is a mobile application designed to support people living with Alzheimer’s and other memory disorders by offering simple, practical tools that help compensate for daily forgetfulness. The idea emerged when its creator saw how his great-aunt struggled with routine tasks after her diagnosis and realised that families lacked accessible digital aids to reinforce memory in everyday life.
Developed together with patients, relatives and professional caregivers, the app acts as a virtual assistant that helps users remember familiar routines, recognise objects and maintain orientation throughout the day. One feature, called “Pequeños olvidos,” uses photographs of rooms with visual labels to help users identify where household items belong, offering reassurance in moments of uncertainty. The app also allows users to record completed activities, receive personalised reminders and share updates with caregivers, who can be informed when support or follow-up is needed. Additional memory cues and temporal orientation tools aim to make everyday environments easier to navigate.
MAÉ is currently being tested in several households through a structured pilot involving families in France. To support the continued development of the app and its accessibility for patients and caregivers, the team has launched a crowdfunding campaign on the Ulule platform. This initiative aims to help refine the solution based on user feedback and ensure its long-term sustainability.
More information about the campaign can be found here: https://fr.ulule.com/mae-mon-allie-essentiel/
The creator plans to continue improving the app through close collaboration with users, with the goal of making MAÉ a practical and accessible resource for people experiencing memory loss and for those who support them.
