About the solution

Jacson is s statistics expert. After he lost his newborn daughter due to an infection, he was inspired to develop a software that relies on Artificial Intelligence to help to alert of the risks of a widespread infection, sepsis. The software reads patient information and issues alerts sent every 3.8 seconds to medical staff to report risks and manage the status of those who are already deteriorating.

“Laura, with all her life in those 28 centimetres and 440 grams, left the inspiration for me to have, even in the worst conditions, the strength to impact the lives of others. Our team takes home the balance of ten lives today, saved every day,” the father explained.

The gadget’s statistics indicate a 9% drop in cases of infection in hospitals using the technology

“Laura's system uses, in addition to vital signs, information such as patient age, comorbidity, gender, inpatient sector, laboratory tests. It is complete. Thus, through statistical models that learn from the data, the calculated probability for death is much more accurate. All our comparisons with the results of traditional protocols are superior”, the expert described.

Laura was launched in 2016. Since then, it has had about 1.2 million patients connected and reduced the hospital mortality rate by 25%, according to the survey. In addition to saving lives, technology is an instrument for optimising health time and resources.

The system is already being used in several hospitals in Brazil.
