Students build talking for their non-verbal friend

Ana Duarte 于 2019-09-09 14:40 分享

About the solution

These students were in the 5th grade when they invented a talking vest that says a number of phrases to help their friend Justin, who is non-verbal. He communicates with others by using a tablet.

“When you touch the ground and then touch a button, it basically makes the noise and that’s how you can talk,” said Sarah, one of the kids involved in the project.

Justin’s friends decided to create this device because they realised Justin is not able to use the tablet while he is the field playing soccer. This way, the boy can still communicate, even though he is not with his tablet.

The team created different prototypes and the final result was a vest that says a different phrase for every button. The vest is red because that’s Justin favourite colour.

The inventors now plan to patent their solution.
