About the solution

Sherif’s project is a Speech Synthesizer for the Language Impaired. It is an embedded device that helps people with speech impairments to communicate with others easily. The device converts the deformed speech into normal speech for the general public to comprehend. This speech can also be converted to text that can be read by the user in order to check what was said to the intended audience. The novel feature is the mechanism which transforms these sounds to regular speech.

He noticed how much his cousin and other hearing impaired people suffered because no one would learn sign language to communicate with them; they were automatically marginalized by their community. This inspired Sherif to create a program that would facilitate the communication process for the entire hearing and speech impaired population.

This inventor is an embedded systems engineer. He holds an Embedded System design diploma from the Information technology Institute (ITI). He’s been awarded with the best Idea award in 2007 at ROBOCON Competition in Egypt and was voted top 10 in the ICT for Change competition.

Sherif presented his project on the Qatar tv show “Stars of Science”.
