After reading an article about a homeless man who died because he could not find shelter during the cold winter, Madi Scheid, a student at Rowlett Academy in Florida, decided to invent a portable shelter as her science project.

Mother invents Water Guardian tags to help preventing child drownings

Nicole Hughes had the idea of Water Guardian tags after her youngest child, Levi, died in a pool accident while they were on vacation with friends.

Levi was always wearing a life jacket because he was not ready for swimming classes but, he also needed supervision at all times when he was at the pool. One day, while they were on holiday, Levi sneaked out of the house and he went to the pool unsupervised. “My initial thought when I saw him in the water was, ‘That can’t be him, because he’s on the couch. All my friends thought that” Nicole says.

Grandson invents hydration bite-sized balls to help his grandmother

Because Lewis’ grandmother suffers from dementia, she was hospitalized for severe dehydration. People with dementia may suffer from dehydration because they forget to drink or they might not feel thirsty or, in severe cases, they may forget how to drink. Usually, when dementia patients are subject to dehydration, caregivers need to step in, proving them with the necessary amount of liquids through food and beverages.
