WIVI Vision: Eva's innovative solution for eye health, inspired by her mother's experience with neurological disease

Shared by Maria Coutinho on 2023-11-03 12:19

About the solution

Eva García Ramos's journey with WIVI Vision began with a deeply personal experience - the diagnosis of her mother's neurological disease at the age of 50, manifested through her eyes. The tragedy of her mother's premature death at 60, coupled with the realisation that earlier detection could have been possible, became the catalyst for Eva's foray into the ocular health sector. Eva, collaboration with Juan Carlos Ondategui-Parra (PhD), created WIVI Vision as an immersive solution to assess and address visual dysfunctions through 3D clinical games based on AI.
WIVI Vision objectively assesses over 50 parameters in five visual areas, offering a personalized visual training program for users. Its uniqueness lies in incorporating both assessment and treatment for all visual areas, introducing user control as a new feature. The standard treatment period is significantly reduced, making it a cost-effective alternative for users and specialists.
Approximately 10% of children (5 to 15 years old) suffer from serious visual dysfunctions, with half going undiagnosed. Many remain undetected, causing adaptation problems and limiting daily activities. WIVI addresses this issue by offering early diagnosis and personalized treatment, improving or eliminating symptoms in 95% of cases. Remarkably, misdiagnoses of dyslexia and ADHD are common, and WIVI aims to reveal visual dysfunctions as possible causes for attention problems. WIVI Vision aims to fill this gap by providing early diagnosis and effective treatment.
WIVI Vision, developed as part of the EyeWideVision project by E-Health Technical Solutions (EHTS) in Barcelona, is a diagnostic and treatment tool for visual dysfunctions. EHTS follows a triple approach, emphasizing the continuous development of WIVI, obtaining certifications, and focusing on prescribers. The goal is to establish WIVI as a global standard in the assessment and treatment of visual dysfunctions.
From assessment to vision improvement, WIVI uses 3D visualization to assist in treatment, providing crucial information to healthcare professionals. By describing the skills and capabilities of the visual system, WIVI contributes to screening and early identification of diseases, solidifying its role in enhancing ocular health worldwide.
Recently, there is already confirmation that its software complies with the essential requirements set by the European Union. Obtaining the CE Marking attests to the commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards outlined in various product guidelines.
With this marking, the product gains the freedom to circulate freely in the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the European Union (EU). Notably, WIVI Vision software has also been validated as a medical device by the Ministry of Health of Spain.

About the author

Eva García Ramos is nowadays the CEO and Co-Founder of WIVI Vision. What truly sparked her interest in the visual health sector was a personal experience she had with her mother, who was diagnosed with a neurological disease through her eyes. This experience led her to identify the need and develop WIVI alongside Juan Carlos Ondategui, who, after 30 years of working with manual and subjective methods of visual therapy, sought to universalize a much-improved diagnostic and training process.
