Inventor creates COVID Emergency Ventilator in just three days

Shared by Ana Ribeiro on 2020-04-02 12:16

About the solution

Rhys Thomas, a consultant anaesthetist at Glangwili General Hospital, was “desperately concerned about the lack of intensive care unit (ICU) ventilators to deal with the inevitable pandemic“. He contacted a local engineering company and, in just three days, came up with the final version of a ventilation system they named “COVID Emergency Ventilator”.

“After designing, constructing and trialling several prototypes in just three days, we came up with a device that worked perfectly. It is simple and robust and specifically designed to work against coronavirus in a contagious environment.”

As well as helping patients to breath, the device also cleans the room of any viral particle, suppling the patients with purified air.

The COVID Emergency Ventilator has already been approved by the Welsh Government and has gone into production. An estimated 100 units will be manufactured per day.
