you some of the Patient Innovation latest news
Patient Innovation was the winner of the World
Summit Awards (a United Nations initiative) in
Portugal, the Fidelidade Comunidade Award and the
Santa Casa Challenge and was featured in several
meetings, conferences and news outlets. Our online platform
reached 100.000 worldwide users. Patient Innovation keeps
expanding and is developing a new hub in Copenhagen,
Denmark. Also, Prof. Keld Laursen from Copenhagen Business
School has joined the Advisory Board.

Patient Innovation was the winner of the World Summit Awards
in Portugal in the category of Health and Well-Being
Patient Innovation was nominated as best national digital
solution for Portugal for the international World Summit
Awards (WSA). The WSA 2018 nominees show the richness,
diversity and innovation of digital solutions on a global
scale and prove how digital technology can improve society
on each corner of the world. The WSA 2018 nominees were
selected by the WSA National Experts from more than 180 UN
member states and were evaluated based on seven fundamental
criteria: Content, Functionality, Design, Technology,
Innovation, Impact and Global/UN value. Previously, in
November 2016, Patient Innovation had been one of five
projects worldwide recognized by former UN Secretary General
Ban Ki-moon, for its contribution to the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals.

Patient Innovation won the Santa Casa Challenge and the
Fidelidade Comunidade Award and is already developing and
distributing new 3D printed prosthetics
The project “Offer your hand” was one of the winners of the
Santa Casa Challenge and the Fidelidade Comunidade prizes
that reward social inclusion and healthcare promotion
projects. From a total of 580 applications in the Fidelidade
Comunidade Award, the Patient Innovation project was one of
the fifteen winners. This award will contribute for the
development and production of low-cost 3D printed prosthesis
for up to 20 children. Rodrigo was the first child to
receive a 3D printed prosthesis under this project. On the
delivery event we counted with the presence and support of
the Câmara Municipal de Vila Real, represented by the City
Councilor José Maria Magalhães. Check here to watch Rodrigo using

The Patient Innovation Advisory Board has a new member:
Prof. Keld Laursen
Prof. Keld Laursen, a leading innovation scholar, professor
and Head of the Department of Strategy and innovation at
Copenhagen Business School, has joined the Advisory Board of
Patient Innovation.
Keld joins a very distinguished group of reputable experts
from health-sciences, law and innovation, including Nobel
Laureate Aaron Ciechanover (Technion), Prof. Lee Fleming
(Berkeley), Prof. Eric von Hippel (MIT), Prof. Bob Langer
(MIT), Nobel Laureate Sir Richard Roberts (NEB) and Prof.
Katherine Strandbourg (NYU).
Keld is a professor of the Economics and Management of
Innovation at Copenhagen Business School and also a DNV-GL
Professor II at the Norwegian University of Science and
Technology (NTNU). His research focuses on open and
distributed innovation processes and on organizational
practices and innovation outcomes. He has published in the
leading management journals and is widely cited. He serves
as a member of the European Research Council (ERC) for
Social Sciences and Humanities (SH1) and is also a member of
the Executive Board of the Danish Research Unit for
Industrial Dynamics (DRUID).

Patient Innovation’s new hub in Copenhagen, Denmark
Patient Innovation is currently expanding its operations to
Scandinavia, and more specifically is creating a new hub in
Copenhagen (Denmark), where Pedro Oliveira is currently
Professor at Copenhagen Business School with special
responsibilities in healthcare innovation. In Copenhagen we
are already working with local organizations to further
develop the project. Soon we will share more news about
this.

which was part of our European Tour, as well as a keynote
about Patient innovation held at Copenhagen Business School
in the context of the 2018 GENiE Global Educator Network for

For the 3rd consecutive year, Patient Innovation was present

Patient Innovation permanent exhibition at CATÓLICA-LISBON
School of Business & Economics
From September 2018, Patient Innovation is featured in a
permanent exhibition at Católica Lisbon School of Business &
Economics. The exhibition opening, on September 21st by
Pedro Oliveira, Patient Innovation Founder and Co-Leader,
counted with the presence of Nuno Fernandes, Dean of
CATÓLICA-LISBON, and Filipe Santos, Senior Associate Dean
for Faculty at CATÓLICA-LISBON. Five solutions selected
from the Patient Innovation platform are present at the
exhibition, including the Ostom-I alert, the Shower Shirt,
the Upsee, the Handiplat and the 3D printed-hand, and also
the technology that allows 3D printing, a 3D printer.

Some facts and numbers on Patient Innovation
Patient Innovation reached the 100 000 users milestone! More
than 850 solutions have been posted by
patients/caregivers/collaborators and approved by the
Patient Innovation medical team. From these, the Patient
Innovation Advisory Board will meet soon and decide on the
selected solutions for the 4th edition of the Patient
Innovation Awards.
