Access Lab - a groundbreaking initiative that strives to ensure access to culture for people with disabilities and the deaf

Tiago Fortuna, an advocate for the integration of individuals with disabilities into society, is also someone who facing the challenges of living with a disability every day. His belief is rooted in the idea that people with disabilities should be more seamlessly integrated into society not because of their disabilities, but because the societal infrastructure should already be inclusive. Fueled by this principle, Tiago, alongside Joana Godinho, who has a background in social impact work with a focus on mobility issues and disabilities, co-founded Access Lab.

WIVI Vision: Eva's innovative solution for eye health, inspired by her mother's experience with neurological disease

Eva García Ramos's journey with WIVI Vision began with a deeply personal experience - the diagnosis of her mother's neurological disease at the age of 50, manifested through her eyes. The tragedy of her mother's premature death at 60, coupled with the realisation that earlier detection could have been possible, became the catalyst for Eva's foray into the ocular health sector. Eva, collaboration with Juan Carlos Ondategui-Parra (PhD), created WIVI Vision as an immersive solution to assess and address visual dysfunctions through 3D clinical games based on AI.

Since the 1960s, Professor Graeme Clark had been engaged in intense research into the areas of otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat surgery) and the human brain's response to coded sound.
In 1967, inspired by his deaf father's struggles, Professor Graeme Clark embarked on a mission to help the profoundly deaf hear.
His PhD from 1969 reflected a keen interest in finding ways to improve, restore and even introduce hearing to patients. From here he started investigating methods to electrically stimulate the auditory nerve.
