Internet-based caregiver support system

Because they all are long-distance caregivers of their mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, they had to invent a product to keep her monitored.

“Nothing can compare with how blessed you feel as a caregiver when you give a sense of belonging and self-worth to someone you love. That’s what drove us to develop AttentiveCare, and that’s what we hope to pass on to others”, Ken explained.

With a background in information system and communications technology, they developed the device and founded their own company in 2003.

TapSpeak Choice is a flexible, usable, and accessible Augmentative and Assistive Communication app. TapSpeak Choice’s app was designed for children and adults with communication difficulties arising from autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, apraxia of speech, aphasia, stroke, Angleman’s syndrom, Rett’s syndrome. It’s designed for quick and easy editing, uses Pixon® symbols, a proven symbol set for core vocabulary usage.

Virtual mouse for the disabled

The sister could operate a Trackball and click but that was about it. She couldn’t type in a regular keyboard and often got stuck because of this. The creator, after developing the Click-N-Type, had the idea of creating an AutoMouse feature to make the computer even more accessible.

Point-N-Click is a free virtual mouse designed for people with disabilities that make it harder to use click a mouse. As long as the user can move a mouse, trackball or other pointing device, he can make the virtual mouse click.

Virtual keyboard for the disabled

The sister could operate a Trackball and click but that was about it. She couldn’t type in a regular keyboard and often got stuck because of this. Click-N-Type was born to help her deal with this situation.

After spending several days searching for ‘On Screen Virtual Keybords’, the creator of Click-N-Type realized that there wasn’t one that suited her needs. There were some free programs, some ‘Buy now, see if it works later’, but none worked for the quadriplegic sister.

Pain Relief without drugs

Amy’s son was going through traumatic routine vaccinations and to minimize his suffering, she invented the Buzzy, a pain blocker.

Buzzy is a reusable pain device that provides pain relief, in a natural way. With Buzzy, the nerves are overwhelmed with benign cold and vibration. Just like when you jiggle a jaw or you put a finger under cold water, these feelings dull or eliminate sharp pain from either vaccines or burning from medications.

Fighting dementia with flowers and activities

Realizing a lot of dementia patients were going through the same struggle, Dennie recruited more women to help her. They started planning simple activities to engage with the people they would visit and called the group Lady-Links, because their mission is to link people, by maintaining the necessary links in their lives.

In Dennie’s words: “What makes Lady Links different is that we go to the ‘dear friends’ home, and we do the activities that they like to do.”
