Students invent fixture for treating malformation of jawbone

Merle Schlottmann 于 2017-04-07 18:35 分享

About the solution

As the two students had to come up with a diploma project, Michael remembered the six surgeries he had to undergo due to the malformation of his jaw. They decided to ease the pain of patients like him and developed this solution.

They were assisted by the AKH Linz and the FH Hagenberg and presented numerous versions to dentists and dental technicians. In the end, the fixture consisted of a cleft palate, which is screwed to the jawbone.

“With this solution, we prevent the hard pain which is caused on the mucosa by existing products”, states the innovator.

The first model was 3D printed in the AKH Linz and afterwards they built the first prototype in titanium.

Before the product can be bought, some trials and certifications have to be completed. Meanwhile, the students will graduate from high school.
