About the solution
The Asthma Grid is a wearable sensor that helps the user to manage and monitor his disease. The technology creates a unique profile which takes into the account the environment, identifying pollutants and aerial allergens through a built-in nano-sensor.
It works by having the user blowing into the device. It then predicts the chances of having an attack, using the gathered information and a mathematical algorithm.
The system has two designs: One is a hand-held unit, and the other is worn on the wrist and has dermal patches and a mouth-piece.
“Asthma Grid will empower patients with a self-management system and increase their awareness and compliance with management protocol,” the inventor said.
The inventor also wants to change its country situation, because South Africa is one the world’s country with the highest Asthma death rate.
"I think the ecosystem of innovation and technology in the country is evolving, but we're not evolving rapidly enough. Innovation and technology is the substance of our economic development. And I just want to encourage structures out there to perhaps identify these ideas at an early stage and maybe invest in supporting them earlier," he explained.
The product is still being developed and tested.
Moses won top prizes in both the Gauteng Accelerator Programme (GAP) Innovation Competitions for 2016 and the International Pitchfest held in Zurich, in 2017.
