About the solution
Sleepio, developed by Big Health, is a digital therapeutic platform designed to help individuals overcome poor sleep and its associated issues. Co-founded by Peter Hames, who personally suffered from insomnia, and Professor Colin Espie, a leading sleep scientist, the solution is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I).
Sleepio is a fully automated, app-based program that delivers personalized cognitive and behavioral techniques to help individuals understand and improve their sleep patterns. The program begins with a sleep test to assess the user's sleep issues. It then generates a tailored sleep schedule and a series of weekly online sessions with "The Prof", an animated sleep expert. These sessions are designed to equip users with practical skills to combat their sleep problems, including techniques to quiet the mind, control negative thoughts, and establish a healthy sleep routine.
Throughout the program, users are supported by online tools and features such as a sleep diary, relaxation audio, and a community of fellow users. The efficacy of Sleepio has been validated in numerous peer-reviewed clinical trials, demonstrating improvements in sleep, mental health, and overall well-being.
By making evidence-based, non-pharmacological sleep therapy accessible to a wider population, Sleepio has the potential to significantly impact the treatment of insomnia and other sleep disorders, transforming the lives of individuals suffering from poor sleep. A placebo-group randomized controlled trial (RCT) was done, and the results of this trial showed that it can help you fall asleep 50% faster, spend 60% less time awake during the night, boost daytime energy, mood, and concentration, and achieve a more reliable sleep pattern.
The clinical trial was peer-reviewed and published in the respected international scientific journal SLEEP in June 2012.
Sleepio is available directly to consumers and through employers and health plans.
