About the solution
Owlet Baby Care is a company that was founded in 2012 by a team of fathers who wanted to create a product to help monitor babies' oxygen levels while they slept. The result of their efforts is the Owlet Smart Sock, a wearable device that tracks heart rate and oxygen levels and alerts parents if there are any abnormalities. The Owlet Smart Sock is the world's first baby "smart sock" that transmits a child's heart rate, oxygen levels, skin temperature, sleep quality, and sleep position (rollover alerts) to a parent's smartphone or another internet-based device.
What makes the Owlet Smart Sock unique is that it applies a safe, proven hospital technology in a new way, utilizing multiple sensors, so it can grow with the child. The monitor will continue to work as long as it fits the child's foot, and it has been beta tested on infants up to two years old. The Owlet team has also partnered with healthcare professionals and organizations to promote infant health and safety.
The Owlet Smart Sock features a four-sensor pulse oximeter that finds heart rate and oxygen levels, similar to the pulse oximetry technology used in hospitals. Owlet is currently going through the FDA process to add an alarm and other features to the next version of the product, which will take the Owlet Smart Sock to a whole new level, notifying parents of drops in heart rate or oxygen levels, and helping to prevent emergencies.
Overall, Owlet Baby Care has created a groundbreaking product that provides parents with peace of mind and healthcare professionals with a useful tool for monitoring infants' health. With their focus on innovation and improvement, Owlet is sure to continue making strides in the infant health and safety industry.
