About the solution
The innovator’s grandmother suffers from arthritis and shared with her grandson that, as she had gotten older, she was having difficulties preforming everyday tasks, like reading. “Among a list of activities was turning the pages of a newspaper. The arthritis in her hands make it hard for her to separate the pages”, her grandson explains.
So the grandson decided to create a device that would her separate the pages: “after brainstorming and testing multiple designs, I came up with a simple tool that quickly and easily separates newspaper pages”.
The device is made up of 3D-printed parts, held together by screws and nuts and that move in relation to each other through the use of elastic bands. The device has a small grip, controlled by two handles. The newspaper is placed between the grip and, by pressing the handles, the top portion of the grip slides along the bottom, which causes the top pages to slide as well. Through this motion, the page separates from the rest, making it easy to grab and flip.
The entire list of materials and instructions to assemble this device are available in the Instructables website: https://www.instructables.com/Newspaper-Page-Separator/
