About the solution
To help maintain social distancing measures and keep students safe at school, Rita Rain and Bogna Haponiuk have developed a Classroom Spacing Calculator. According to guidelines emitted by the CDC, students should be kept 6 feet (1,80 meters) apart. Using this tool, schools “can easily check how many students will fit into one classroom”.
The steps to properly use the calculator are outlined as follows:
1. Check how you want to arrange the desks - in a rectangular or a triangular grid.
2. Modify the social distancing rule as required by your school - if the school wants children to sit more than 6 feet apart, you can change the default value in the calculator.
3. Input the number of students you usually have in one class.
4. Enter the dimensions of the seatable área.
5. Input the dimensions of the desks.
After adding all the necessary information “calculator will tell you how many students you can fit in your classroom, and compare this number with the class size.” If the room is not able to safely accommodate the entire class, schools will have to determine plans to breakdown the classes into smaller groups.
The calculator can be freely accessed at https://www.omnicalculator.com/other/classroom-spacing
