Über die Lösung
Als Chua Yi Xiang einem älteren Mann mit einem Gehstock beim Ausrutschen half und auf eine nasse Straße fiel, bekam er die Inspiration, einen Gehstock zu entwickeln, der ein Ausrutschen auf nassen Oberflächen verhindern konnte.
Chua und sein Kollege Jenson Ting Kian Seng entwickelten den Ely Walking Stick. Wenn es eine nasse Oberfläche gibt, vibriert der Stick, um die Benutzer zu alarmieren, und wenn schlechtes Licht oder Dunkelheit vorhanden ist, leuchtet der Stick auf.
Der Prototyp wurde im Thye Hua Kwan Hospital getestet. Chua und Jensos gewannen 2017 den Flod Award für ihren Prototyp in der Designkategorie der Fünften Nationalen Innovation Challenge für assistive und rehabilitative Technologien.
