About the solution
AUTS is an inclusive multimedia project that deals with Autism. The project has an animated series, a website and an application with puzzle games, drawing and memory games, as well as the animated series itself. The project idea comes from Renato Barreto, animation director.
The project's main character is Auts, a little boy on the autistic spectrum. Renato created the project to help Arthur, his son, who is on the autistic spectrum, communicate with his family. Renato recorded the words of Auts with Arthur, word for word, with some difficulty, and then turned these loose words into sentences of the character. Arthur marveled at the process, began to speak whole sentences - the sentences Auts said in the drawing - and to create his own. The family - also composed by Fernanda Arraz, businesswoman, Arthur's mother, and David Arraz, the couple's first child -, who participate in the recordings, each with a character, noted Arthur's rapid development in speech and communication. . Renato Barreto then took his project to the company Takapy Digital Art and, in partnership, developed the series, the website and the application.
While recording and later viewing the series is a great stimulus for Arthur, Project Auts also targets other children - autistic or not. The stories in the animated series present the world from the perspective of Auts, and through interaction with their friends Ana, Davi, and Cachorro, the series encourages social inclusion. The adventures of Auts and their friends show that it is possible to include autists in daily activities by having empathy and a little patience. And the games available in the app, besides being fun, stimulate the children's motor skills. The app and series are a hit in the age group of 2 to 6 years, and have been very well received by the Brazilian autistic community. The series is one of the most watched on the Playkids platform since its release.
In addition to the app and the series, Project Auts has a website that features project history, autism pointers, and a specific part for kids where they can get to know the characters better and download drawings and masks of the animated series characters - Auts, Ana, David and Dog.
The project features Instagram and Facebook profiles (@eusouauts) where it tells stories about the project, informs its readers about autism issues, talks about Arthur and his family, and interacts with the app's users and viewers of the series.
The project is currently seeking sponsorship to increase the number of episodes in the series and to include new in-app and website activity.
