About the solution
Juliano Oliveira Cravo, born in Brazil, in 1979, is a DJ who was a law degree and who built a system, in 2018, that allows the user to control electronic equipment with the voice. He created this technology for Sandro Francisco da Silva, a tetraplegic man.
Sandro became a tetraplegic more than 30 years ago, after a car accident. He can only move his head and neck. It was very hard for him to have to even ask for help for simple tasks such as turning on the light, especially when he was home alone.
When Juliano heard of this story, he decided to take action. So he taught himself and then came up with a kit, to install in the computer, that allows the user to activate and use systems with the voice. For instance, Sandro now can turn on and turn off the lights in the house, open and close the house gate and call, through whistling, someone in the house.
“This system gave me more strength. It also motivated me to write, also by voice command, a book telling my story. Now we are thinking about other commands so that this mechanism can help more people like me”, the patient explained.
Juliano created this kit by searching online and reading books about the subject. He tested it himself first and now wants to build more kits and give them to people who need it.
