About the solution
Siara’s work allows her to explain herself to other people, and has also helped with some daily challenges, as she is sensitive to light, heat and struggles with maintaining eye contact.
“If I’m going to understand someone else and befriend them and interact in a positive way, I need to get inside their psyche and understand what’s going on under there. I want to be able to communicate, I want to be able to understand people, and it means I have to learn how to do it”, the designer observed.
The girl designed these series, which she developed by using her own experiences so that she can also demystify her condition.
“I really wanted to tell a story that would help me explain myself, what autism means for me, what my struggles are, and how I’ve had to work through them,” she said.
Siara diagnosed herself after reading a book about an autistic character and doing her own research. Her younger brother is also autistic, which was an extra inspiration for her.
“Watching him go through the daily challenges of school while having them compounded by ASD reminded me of my own childhood struggles and became a sort of inspiration for the project,” she concluded.
