Tetraplegic develops add-on handbikes

Ana Duarte 于 2016-03-07 11:53 分享

About the solution

Until the accident, Pau had a very active life and has an Industrial design student. He got frustrated, when, after the accident, he realized that the market didn’t offer technical and orthopaedic aids that would fulfil his expectations, either in terms of mobility or in terms of lifestyle.

That’s when he started creating his own mobility solutions: add-on handbikes that could be connected to his wheelchair and which incorporated technology from cycling and electric vehicles.

"So I set out to make my own inventions. I wanted something that would solve my basic problem: autonomy and dependence. I felt comfortable in my manual wheelchair but for long distances, tourism and sports, I was very dependent on third parties and a car", Pau explains.

The inventor founded his own company, Batec Mobility, in 2006.

In 2008, its own brand was launched to market, then called Batec Handbikes. The range comprised two models of handbikes that could be connected to wheelchairs: a manual model (Batec M-handbike) and an electric model (Batec E-handbike).
