About the solution

Jonas Grau Thomsen’s journey with disability began at a young age when he was diagnosed with an illness that left him partially paralyzed. At six, doctors told him he would only be able to walk for ten more years, marking the start of his search for a bionic solution. After enduring years of surgeries and recovery, Jonas developed a resilience that fueled his drive to improve mobility options for others. Embracing his lived experience, he transformed it into a career as an exoskeleton pilot tester and innovation consultant, channeling his insights to enhance assistive technology and accessibility.

In 2021, Jonas founded Nordic Bionics in Denmark to address a gap he observed in traditional mobility aids, particularly wheelchairs, which often limit users’ mobility and lead to health issues like muscle atrophy. Nordic Bionics emerged from Jonas's vision of a more inclusive, technologically advanced future in mobility aids. The company specializes in exoskeletons and exosuits designed to empower individuals who cannot walk, providing them with greater independence and freedom of movement. Through collaborations with assistive device manufacturers, Nordic Bionics prioritizes user-centered design, creating lightweight, adaptive exoskeletons that cater to diverse physical and social needs. Jonas aims to reshape the industry, inspiring societal change and promoting a future where technology enables people with disabilities to lead more active and fulfilling lives.

As an experienced wheelchair user and exoskeleton advocate, he is committed to advancing the real-world application of exoskeletons, moving them from the lab into everyday life. By sharing his experiences as an exoskeleton tester, he hopes to connect more people with the life-changing potential of these technologies.
