About the solution
Due to Neurofibromatosis type 2 and many tumours I am blind and deaf. I had to come up with a new form of communication. As a child, I used to play a game with family where we would write letters on each others' back and try to guess what they were. I started asking people to write on my cheek so, when a person would approach, I asked them to spell their name on my cheek, so I know who it is. I chose the cheek because the letters are in the same place for both people.
You write large clear letters in the centre on the cheek, not side to side like you would in a note book. You need to apply some pressure so that the person can feel it. In between each word you tap the bottom of the chin to finish each word. If you make a mistake, you can do a sweep across the cheek to rub it out like a rubber. A simple yes is a strike across the cheek with your for fingers and a simple no is a fist against the cheek gently and you move it around like as if you were shaking your head. If you are doing numbers you do dots on the cheek tapping out the numbers. When someone is leaving me, they jut write bye so that I know they are no longer there. it is very important to have patience but becomes easier as you go.
