How a nice's invention for his uncle is changing Parkinson's management

About the solution

Jui Keskar from Pune has accompanied her uncle's battle with Parkinson’s disease throughout most of her childhood. His suffering was so great, that made him spend most of his time in hospital, not being able to control his tremors efficiently. This motivated Jui to search for an answer since she understood that if she could measure these tremors by any means, doctors could modify his medication easily and at a faster pace., which meant that he could get them under control much faster.

With school, extracurricular activities, and many other things, there was never a good opportunity to submerge herself in research and development. That is, until the COVID-19 lockdown when into effect, which gave her time to figure out a way to potentially help her uncle and others who suffer from Parkinson’s. All of her free time was then spent designing and assembling this device, which she called the JTremor-3D.

This is a wearable device embedded with sensors, accelerometers, and gyro meters, which are linked with the software. It enables the tracking of tremors every 1/10th of a second in a person’s body, and stores the data in a Cloud database, where the information is processed and sent to the doctor. This means that the information reaches the right people faster and medication can be adjusted correctly.

Although this is not the first device of his kind, it is lighter, and easily transported, which means that it can be used in a more day-to-day setting, and not only for research purposes.
