About the solution
RespireAide uses two separate components, a Soft Palate Lifter and a Tongue Retainer, to simultaneously address the two organs involved in creating an apnea and snoring, the soft palate and the tongue. The Soft Palate Lifter supports the soft palate while the Tongue Retainer inhibits rearward movement of the tongue towards the soft palate. In this way, the soft palate and the tongue remain in the same positions relative to each other as when a person is awake and an open airway is maintained through which the patient can breathe easily.
“My original intention was not to create a medical device to sell to other people, but rather, to address my own OSA that had increased in severity as I grew older. About six years ago, my condition became so acute that I was falling asleep any time that I sat in one place for more than five minutes, including when I was driving. After I had crossed over the oncoming lane of traffic and hit the opposite curb 4 or 5 times (luckily this happened on side streets when there was no oncoming traffic), I decided that I needed to define and address my problem before I had a serious accident”, he explained.
No mask or airhose is needed, and no stress is put on the teeth, muscles, joints, or connective tissue in the oral cavity. The unit is fully adjustable to fit a wide range of users.
