About the solution

During his late teenage years and early twenties, Drew was a very accomplished athlete. He won several northern championships and competing at the British Olympic trials. He was given the opportunity to study human performance and physical education with a minor in business alongside competing in the National Collegiate Athletics Association.

In 2014, Drew broke his neck after a shallow dive accident, which led him to become quadriplegic. At the time, he was living in the USA so he had access to state-of-the-art rehabilitation.

Once he returned to the UK, Drew he realised that the opportunities to use similar equipment severely limited and extremely expensive. And that’s how Pop Up Gym was born.

“Pop-Up Gym is a travelling rehabilitation and fitness gym for people with spinal cord injuries. We show up in town, use a local prearranged facility and unload our specialist equipment. People with spinal cord injuries from all over the north of England will have an opportunity to use the Gym for a nominal fee of £100 Per year. The gym is completely non-profit and relies solely on donations and volunteers to keep it running”, he explained.

This gym was founded after Drew launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, in 2016. Pop Up Gym was open in 2018 and Drew is the CEO.
