The Ramble Tag guidance aid - designed for use between guide and visually impaired person

Ramble Tag 于 2019-09-13 09:52 分享

About the solution

The Ramble Tag is a small simple lightweight harness designed to be worn around the upper arm, or wrist of a guide, with a visually impaired person. It wraps around the arm, and has a firm but comfortable handle for the person wanting security and guidance.

Movements become more flowing, with less need to keep in sync, there is less strain on shoulders and back for both guide and person being guided, and it offers more independence to those who like their space. Importantly, people feel less dependant on others while using it, giving them more control and an extra choice.

Although designed from necessity to ease our dog-walking, we were astonished at the possibilities the Tag offered for the visually impaired, whether travelling/commuting, walking/running, climbing or rambling. It also eliminates potential gender and cultural guide issues, which the likes of airports assistance teams are very enthusiastic about. The Ramble Tag has been shown to be a real and positive choice for inclusion for those with sight impairment.

关于发明者

Tom and Laura are neighbours, both with visual art backgrounds. They became good friends quickly, sharing a sense of humour and hunger for problem solving.
The Ramble Tag was initially designed to ease the process of our dog walking. Tom, who is blind, and Laura, who sometimes guides him, often found themselves in a chaotic situation while walking their two large strong-willed dogs. They now have much easier walks together and use the Ramble Tag everywhere as they travel together to promote this new idea.

Tom has Type 1 Diabetes.
