Father creates sign so that his autistic son can trick or treat on Halloween

Shared by Ana Duarte on 2019-08-28 10:15

About the solution

Sean developed an autism awareness sign to help notify his neighbours of some atypical behaviours his son might display on Halloween night when he's out trick or treating. This way, Logan, who is non-verbal, can wear a costume and still trick or treat normally.

"It's basically a big circle and on the top it says 'Autism Awareness' and it says 'Hi, my name is Logan and I have non-verbal autism. I might push my way in, grab more candy than I would like, not wait my turn. I'm sorry, I am still learning. Thank you,'" explained Logan’s father, who had the idea for the sign after seeing a similar one online.

Sean runs a martial arts academy with classes for children with special needs like autism, said that this sign on Logan's neck is helping people to become more aware of autism so that children like him are more accepted in society for who they are.

About the author

Sean Hunt, from Canada, has a son, Logan, who is autistic. Sean wanted Logan to be able to enjoy Halloween with his sisters and friends without having to explain his son's behaviour to every person he meets while the family is out trick or treating. So he came up with signs.
