Tactile VoiceOver Rotor Box

Shared by NealM on 2019-07-15 16:58

About the solution

This is a tactile representation of the very important Rotor option menu used by blind and low vision Voiceover screen reader users on Apple mobile products. This is a gesture that can be confusing for ones learning to navigate their phone in a non visual way. So this tactile teaching tool has become very helpful.

About the author

Hi I'm Neal Mckenzie an A.T. Specialist who works with blind/low vision student K-12. I had a young blind student struggling with the VoiceOver screen reader gesture used for the rotor options feature. It's like turning an invisible knob but that concept was very confusing for a few of my students. By using this tool they learned much quicker and understood how the turn could line up with different options. We made a game of it and it helped a few of my kiddos gain the practice they needed to master this concept and function of a system they would come to rely on.
