About the solution
Daniel Senn began looking for alternative ways to help his hearing-impaired son to learn how to read. Finding something that worked proved difficult, so he decided to take the matter into his own hands.
Together with his son, he developed a reading app, Poio, which consists of an adventure universe with playful characters, secret quests, sounds and letters. The difficulty is adapted to the user. The game allows children to learn letters, words and sentences through play and experimentation. As the child understands the connection between the letters and the words, the reading tasks become more challenging. Finally, the child should be able to read a storybook with 300 words on his own.
"What we see is that many of the children who struggle to learn to read, primarily struggle with motivation. Poio is built up so that it will create a sense of mastery and reading pleasure, which I think has a great effect. In this way, the children break the reading code faster and associate reading with something positive, rather than something they have to learn", he explained.
Senn's son, Aksel, was quick to break the reading code through the game.
Daniel has since launched Poio, which quickly achieved great success in the Norwegian App Store.
