Professor creates clothing for people with mobility limitations to go outdoors

Ana Duarte 于 2019-04-04 19:50 分享

About the solution

"I thought about people with mobility challenges who might not have arms or legs who might have limited ability to use their arms and legs," she said in an interview on Edmonton AM. They might be in a wheelchair, they may be blind, they may be using canes. I grew up knowing that disability was not about what people could not do, it was about what they could do. So, I'm really inspired to create design solutions that really work toward people's abilities, rather than disabling them further”, she explained.

Megan’s invents consists of a three-part garment with a cape-like top and two bottoms (one looks like a sleeping bag and the other resembles snow pants). It features a triple-zip function with easy-slide zippers on both the cape and leg covers, which allows the garment user or the caregiver to open up anywhere along the body.

Megan is working with experts at the Dong Hwa University, in China, so that her prototype can be tested before being ready for the assembly line.

The designer's goal is to produce a line of clothing and work with the Albert Ability Lodges Society and then sell the garment online.
