Caring for a grandmother inspires a privacy-preserving senior care solution

Shared by Gemma Tria on 2026-02-02 16:22

About the solution

Kubo Care is a contact-free health monitoring system designed to help older adults live more safely at home or in senior living communities. The solution consists of small radar-based sensors installed in living spaces, such as bedrooms or common areas. These sensors continuously track movement and activity patterns without using cameras, microphones, or wearable devices.

The system uses radar signals to detect events such as falls in real time, as well as changes in daily routines, including mobility levels and time spent inactive. In addition to movement, the sensors can capture basic physiological patterns, such as breathing and presence, without requiring any physical contact with the person being monitored. All data is processed using AI algorithms that look for deviations from an individual’s usual behaviour.

Kubo Care was developed by Anurag Ram Chandran and Ayush Agrawal, whose experience caring for their family in Kerala, India, highlighted how difficult it can be for families to know whether an older relative is safe when living independently. They observed that many risks, particularly falls or gradual decline, were often noticed only after an emergency occurred, and that existing solutions were frequently intrusive or poorly accepted.

Rather than providing continuous video feeds or raw data, Kubo Care translates detected changes into simple alerts and summaries that can be accessed by families and care teams through dashboards and mobile applications. This allows caregivers to quickly understand whether a fall has occurred or whether an older adult’s activity levels have changed over time, supporting earlier and more informed interventions.

The system has been tested in real-world settings in India, Japan, and the United States, where feedback from families and care providers has helped refine how information is presented and integrated into everyday care routines.

About the author

Anurag Ram Chandran and Ayush Agrawal are the co-founders of Kubo Care, a solution inspired by their experience caring for their family in Kerala, India. During this time, they became aware of the difficulties families face in ensuring the safety of older relatives living independently, particularly when risks such as falls are only noticed after an incident. This experience motivated them to explore more discreet and respectful ways of supporting senior care.
