About the solution
When Stephen Eades' daughter was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, he worried about many, many things, but one of the main things was her independence. How would she live without him and her mum being around her 24/7? How would she cope with the demands of a new and scary world?
Stephen knew that he could not be always there, by her side, but he could do something to help her navigate these uncharted waters. This is when he sought to create a technology that would help her live her life independently, which led him to create iCan!
The gathering of the Apple Watch's incredible technology to give parents and caregivers a customizable app to help their kids was the stepping point to its creation of iCan. This app has an interface that can be programmed to help kids remember to do daily activities such as brushing their teeth, taking medications, or getting ready for school. At the same time, the watch's cutting-edge biometric monitors can also help parents, caregivers, and medical providers get real-time access to their child's heart rate or pulse, all while having a location tracking aspect to it, that allows for peace of mind.
With this proof of concept now in place, iCan Interactive's innovative watch and mobile app are poised to help both caregivers and healthcare practitioners remotely manage patients with chronic conditions while collecting valuable real-world health data (RWD) to improve decision making, thus improving patient outcome.
This technology has also been proven to be valuable in helping caregivers aid people living with dementia or Alzheimer's so it is currently being used by Bayshore HealthCare (in collaboration with Georgian College) to leverage wearable tech to monitor patients and help family caregivers remotely monitor their loved ones living with dementia.
