About the solution
Soria can’t move his legs and has very little hand movement. That is why he invented these two gadgets. FaceMOUSE Machine and FaceMOUSE Fly can be used without hands, voice or sensors.
These devices work by detecting movement via a webcam.
Regarding FaceMOUSE Machine, the user just has to move in front of the webcam and the cursor will move to the letters he wants it to move. It is recommended that the user uses the part of the body he controls best (nose, lip, finger, etc).
The FaceMOUSE Machine is also equipped with a touchscreen to allow the disabled person to be helped by someone else. It can also be supplied with a stand, convenient to move thanks to the wheels and the computer battery, easy to use both with the wheelchair or when the patient is bedridden.
The FaceMOUSE Fly consists of a tablet that uses the FaceMOUSE Machine technology.
“Thanks to the vocal synthesis and to the support arm adaptable to all the wheelchairs, the "FaceMOUSE Fly" turns out to be a communication aid and a portable work tool. The "FaceMOUSE Fly" is an information technology aid that adapts completely to the disabled, detecting every particular movement of the person”, it says on the official website.
In 2005, Soria founded A.I.D.A. Onlus “Ausili e Informatica per Disabili e Anziani”, a social cooperative (the only institution of its kind in Italy) where he puts his technical skills at the service of others in order to develop solutions that can improve quality of life for disabled people.
