About the solution
This device allows asthma patients to efficiently use their asthma medication. It is used with standard asthma inhalers, and was designed to ensure optimal fluid flow through the chamber and is compact and portable, easy to use and clean and cost-effective to produce.
“I think we should always look for new or improved ways of working to benefit patients and I’m very pleased that this idea could have such a positive impact on so many people’s lives”, the inventor said.
Paul Watson, a school nurse, was inspired to produce the first prototype because of his youngest daughter, Katherine. She was diagnosed with asthma at 6-months-old and had been using inhalers ever since. One time, during an asthma attack, Paul had to take her to the hospital and found out that she was not taking her medicine properly: it was getting stuck in the back of her throat. That's when he decided to develop Pocket-Flow® Spacer. Due to this innovation, Paul received the Alumni Success in Business Award from Anglia Ruskin University.
The product was licensed to Vivo Smart Medical Devices for production and commercialization.
