About the solution
PROBLEM FOR THE USER (STARTING POINT AND USE CASE: FATHER OF JASA MEDICAL’S FOUNDER)
"Because my compression socks are too difficult to pull on and take off, I need help. Every morning I need help to pull the socks on and help in the afternoon to take off. During the daytime, there is nobody to help me to take them off to release the pressure. Depending on the day, they are from uncomfortable to painful to have on throughout the whole day. The nurse that helps me drives several miles each day, only to assist me with the socks. I always wake up an hour or two before she arrives, but I cannot stand up and walk before my socks are on.” (Thor, then 77 years, father of founder)
ABOUT THE SOLUTION
Our compression stocking is designed to be the easiest-to-use compression stocking in the market. and a new, patented zipper system.
Our solution differentiates through having an integrated unique, patented zipper solution. To protect the skin, there is a flexible layer underneath the zipper zone. The compression is activated by closing the zipper. We are using the latest technology regarding fabrics, and 3D knitting to optimize performance, fit and feel.
Our solution increases the inner diameter when the zipper is drawn down, and it becomes easier to pull on. When pulled on, the compression sock is activated by pulling the zipper to the active position. The zipper is drawn down before taking of the sock. The zipper solution also allows for a “rest mode” when pulled down during the time of use.
We have so far conducted more than 100 tests. The results are very promising. The test objects use much less time on our sock, and 9/10 find Jasa Medical’s sock to be the easiest to pull on and off.
ADVANTAGES BEYOND USER
(1) More than 1% of Industrialized countries’ public health budgets are associated with venous insufficiency (a condition in which the veins have problems sending blood from the legs back to the heart). A compression garment is used for people having venous insufficiency. A compression garment is also used for more. The cost is not driven for buying the compression garment but from the time spent by health personnel in assisting people to use the compression garment (home, hospital, nursing homes, etc.). An easier in use solution, where a share of those that need help, can be self-assisted, hold the potential to reduce public health budgets significantly
(2) Assisting users with compression garments is very hard work for health personnel: Nearly all the health personnel we have been in contact with has themselves or a colleague having had problem with lower arm tendonitis, also other problems associated with being in not optimal positions combined with the significant force needed when pulling on and taking off a sock
