LifeinaBox, the world's smallest intelligent fridge for the safe transport of medication

Shared by Uwe Diegel on 2018-02-21 12:03

About the solution

About 5% of the worldwide population uses a medication that has to be kept in the fridge at all times (diabetes, arthritis, Crohn's Disease, growth hormones, etc). This makes it very difficult for these patients to travel. And the important side-effect of this is that people using these medications often do not take them to work with them, because they would have to put their medication in the office fridge for every one to know that they suffer from multiple sclerosis or some other horrible disease.

LifeinaBox, our first product, is the world's smallest intelligent fridge. It measures 20 x 10 x 10 cm, is highly portable, is equipped with a 24-hour battery, plugs into any power source (110 to 240V, cigarette car-lighter, USB port), and is connected to the Lifeina App, which measures the temperature of the medication in real-time, the battery power and will also send the user reminders as to when to take his medication. And an extra bonus is that it is simply gorgeous, which means that people will not be embarrassed by their disease. This may sound trite, but is hugely important, as people who suffer from chronic diseases, such as in my family, are basically defined by their lifestyle, and anything that gives them a chance to lead a "normal" life is hugely important.

LifeinaBox allows people suffering from chronic disease using fragile medication to travel anywhere, any time, with the peace of mind of knowing that their medication is always safe with them at exactly the right temperature.

About the author

I have been making medical devices for over 20 years, working for major companies in the field of medical diagnostics. A couple of years ago my brother nearly died when a hotel froze his insulin by accident. So I set about finding a solution for him and started the Lifeina Project. I resigned my position as CEO of iHealthLabs Europe to launch this project, because it was truly driven by a personal need. And this is how the best innovations are born.
