Man with type 1 diabetes invents “smart cap”

João Canelhas 于 2017-11-07 18:19 分享

About the solution

John was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was three-years-old. Tired of living a life of second-guessing himself about whether or not he had administered his insulin dose, John and his brother Andreas decided to create a solution that would make life easier for him, and all other people living with diabetes. So they came up with the “smart cap”. This cap fits onto all major insulin pen brands and has a built-in timer to show how long it has been since the last insulin injection was administered.

This was such a remarkable invention that soon he established Timesulin, focused on developing new and patentable solutions for daily issues faced by people living with chronic conditions.

Thanks to this solution John helps hundreds of thousands of people with diabetes lead a safer, simpler life.

Despite already having won several prizes, John now aims to develop a new insulin pen dose capture device that will drive automated diabetes decision-making for the millions of insulin pen users around the globe.

关于发明者

John Sjölund, born in Sweden, in 1984, lives with type 1 diabetes since he was three. So he came up with the “smart cap” - a cap that fits onto all major insulin pen brands and has a built-in timer to show how long it has been since the last insulin injection was administered, because he often second-guessed himself about whether or not he had administered his insulin dose. He wanted a simple solution that would confirm the time since he last took an insulin shot and help avoid an accidental missed or double dose of insulin.
