Engineer develops bionic robotic arm for himself

Merle Schlottmann 于 2017-04-10 14:17 分享

About the solution

Maksim Lyashko decided to build a bionic artificial arm, after he lost his right arm in a mine in 2013. He calls his project "MaxBionic" and started working on the prosthesis immediately when he left the hospital, as he found out that existing prosthesis were expensive and not worth the money.

He aimed to create a prosthesis which is ten-to-a hundred times less expensive but as functional as the ones on the market. Therefore, he developed his own ideas and produced it in Russia. The accumulator weighs 400g and is equipped with a control card, a number of electromyographic sensors, know-how finger drive system and a spring holding system.

The robotic hand performs movements based on electrical signals of the muscles. The first two prototypes were made of plastic, the third one is a serial product which is made of metal. It is an open source version, which can be printed on a 3D printer and costs less than 1,000€.

“I am disabled, plus user of a prosthesis, so I understand the problem from within. I see things that a man without disabilities will not occur,” he says.

In 2016 the project has been presented on “Boomstarter”, a crowdfunding platform, but was not funded.
