App to help increase blood donations

Ana Duarte 于 2017-03-24 10:45 分享

About the solution

The app developer realized that in Ghana people are not aware of the blood transfusion need in Ghana, so he and his team created a solution for this problem.

“We got to know the challenge the National Blood Service was facing recruiting volunteer blood donors. Unfortunately, scientists are yet to invent blood. So what that means is that anytime there is need for blood at our hospitals during surgery, cancer treatment, pregnancy and newborn cases, blood must come from one human being to be used. That makes blood such an important “commodity” in our health sector as a society and nation”, he explained.

This application stimulates people to volunteer as blood donors, also by providing free access to qualified medical practitioners through live chats, virtual clinics, daily health tips, among others, in order to incentivize use of the platform. Donors are also encouraged to recruit their friends onto the platform to earn points.

This cloud based app makes it possible for the National Blood Service to replenish its stock, search, match and conveniently contact interested donors in case of emergencies.

When the team realized that there were not enough smartphones in Ghana to choose just a mobile application that requires internet connection, they added the SMS feature.

Ernest founded 233apps Ltd, the company which built and commercializes the app.

The app is available for Android and iOS.
