About the solution
Sean was an inventor and a builder since he was 14 years old. Every time time he had a chance, we would be working in his garage or shop.
But then a new opportunity came up: To put his skills to work by helping a loved one.
“I thought this was a great opportunity for me to have fun with her, considering I like everything with wheels. I quickly realized that pre-made chairs, bikes and sports equipment for people who have special needs cost way too much for the average family to afford”, he explained.
Trinity wanted to attend to a sports camp, but her traditional wheelchair needed some changes, in a non expensive way.
"Sports equipment is not covered at all on most insurance plans, so there isn't much help in getting these kids out and active. I decided I had the ability to do something about this, and I had most of the equipment already", Sean affirmed.
So the inventor created a personalized wheelchair by using parts from old wheelchairs, with the aim of reducing cost and weight, with Trinity’s measures in mind.
After taking the invention to the sports camp, the custom wheelchair got famous, by also being affordable. So Sean founded his own company – SeanCo Wheelchairs - And he is now commercializing the wheelchairs.
"We are innovating new designs and styles that haven't been seen in the wheelchair community before, while keeping our prices well under other companies that are close to what we do. We really have started a new field of ultra-custom, one of a kind wheelchairs that no one has tried before by bringing my automobile custom style to the manufacturing of wheelchairs”, the entrepreneur said.
